There’s a sweetness that offsets that and overpowers the taste of neutral spirits that push each can to 5 percent ABV. Overall, I think this drink beat out the cherry-flavored one simply because I anticipated it landing toward the bottom of the pack, and it succeeded in surprising and delighting me. While I’d imagine this being a great ingredient in myriad cocktail recipes, I hesitate to suggest doing anything besides chilling it and drinking it as is on a hot summer day. The flavor was a master class of subtlety, carefully blending acidity with sweetness while infusing just the right amount of bitterness in the aftertaste.

Light and refreshing with an alcohol content of just five percent ABV, one thing is for certain — it’s going to be a sweet summer. Derived from fermented sugar cane, Simply Spiked is the third xcritical rezension alcoholic beverage release from Coca-Cola in the last year. The brand is being positioned as a hard lemonade, rather than a hard seltzer.

I would have enjoyed this beverage more if the strawberry-to-lemon ratio was more balanced. What I did appreciate about this libation was it was not assertively sweet, and the strawberry tempered the acid of the lemonade somewhat, making it a bit gentler on the digestive system. I think I was also biased because strawberry seems like a rather obvious pairing and one that is not all that novel. It is kind of “been there, done that.” Despite xcritical reviews this, this beverage would be pleasant to sip on if garnished with fresh strawberry halves to accentuate the existing strawberry flavor. There’s a calorie-to-taste sacrifice here, which probably won’t concern you if you were reaching for a beer anyway but is noticeable if you’re measuring this up against a 100 calorie seltzer.

From sangria to bellini to mimosas, our propensity for consuming fruit-flavored alcoholic drinks is well-documented, and plenty of brands recognize the opportunity to capitalize on this adaptation. One such brand is Simply Spiked, which introduced its first line of lemonade flavors in 2022. Its latest foray into boozy fruit libations includes four new limeade flavors. Like its spiked lemonade varieties, each refreshing, fizzy beverage contains 5% real fruit juice, 5% ABV, and 170 calories per serving. According to Coca Cola, all of the varieties will contain 170 calories per 12 ounce can, which is considerably more than most popular hard seltzers.

Molson’s chief marketing officer Michelle St. Jacques called Simply Spiked a “big opportunity” for the juice brand. In addition to our full-flavoured Simply Spiked Lemonade, we’re excited to introduce to you NEW Simply Spiked Peach flavours. Crafted by the juice experts at Simply®, Simply Spiked Lemonade and Peach have 5% REAL fruit juice that’s xcritical been squeezed, then concentrated. With a little fizz, Simply Spiked is bursting with refreshing, natural, and juicy flavours.

Raspberry lemonade, in general, has seen a spike in increase, as shown by the influx of pictures of the beverage posted on Instagram. Perhaps it’s due to the extra burst of berry flavor provided by the rosy-hued fruit or the natural aesthetic that comes with it. Once I finished tasting all the beverages, I referenced my notes, resampling a couple I was on the fence about to determine the final order in which they ranked from least to most favorite. Balance is what sets this drink apart from most of the rest. The overall balance of slightly nutty, spicy cherry with the brightness of the lime is perfectly executed, and the fact that it didn’t land in my top spot has nothing to do with the quality of this drink.

Which flavor of Simply Spiked is best?

Last but not least on my list of Simply Spiked citrus-flavored beverages was the Signature Lemonade. Before delving into details, let me unequivocally state that I have no qualms with this beverage. I would gladly drink it again and found it quite pleasant.

From the moment you pop the can open, the aroma of passion fruit dominates with exotic sweet, citrus, and floral notes. In the interest of continued research on the topic, I took the initiative to sample all eight Simply Spiked lemonade and limeade varieties. I then ranked them based on my professional opinion as a chef, food anthropologist, and self-proclaimed cocktail connoisseur. I will outline my criteria for ranking these beverages at the end of this article, but in the meantime, read on to see which spiked juice drink will pucker your lips and whet your whistle the most. It appears that this beverage is perfect to mix with alcohol, with some people experimenting and combining this drink with Malibu rum (via Recipe Diaries).

I probably would have enjoyed this flavor more if the lime was more balanced with the passion fruit, lending a hint of more brightness and acidity. This could easily be remedied with some fresh lime juice or zest. This beverage would be a fabulous alternative to ginger beer in a play on a Moscow Mule, substituting vodka with tequila or mezcal.

  1. While I’d imagine this being a great ingredient in myriad cocktail recipes, I hesitate to suggest doing anything besides chilling it and drinking it as is on a hot summer day.
  2. The brand’s fresh, great-tasting flavors pair seamlessly with alcohol.
  3. In the interest of continued research on the topic, I took the initiative to sample all eight Simply Spiked lemonade and limeade varieties.
  4. I stand corrected, as the libation ended as my favorite of the Simply Spiked citrus-flavored beverages.
  5. I found this one of the most intriguing flavors I sampled, even if it did not rank higher on my list.

Simply Spiked Lemonade Is A Seltzer Hater’s Summer Refuge

I did get some inkling of lemon blueberry-flavored foods that I enjoy from this libation. I would have just enjoyed a more balanced ratio of blueberry to lemon with a hint of sweetness to temper the tart flavors of both fruits. I could easily see using this to mix up a blueberry lemon drop cocktail or martini using fresh blueberries and lemon peel as a garnish to accentuate the flavors. Next on my ranking of Simply Spiked citrus-flavored drinks is the Passion Fruit Limeade.

The company is also releasing a new Simply Spiked Lemonade in Summer 2022, which is also highly anticipated. If all of that isn’t a good reflection of their popularity, the drink can also be purchased at Wingstop, Five Guys, and Subway, according to Foodlocate. Simply® is The Coca‑Cola Company’s second-largest brand based on net revenue in the United States, behind Coca‑Cola, and Simply® beverages are found in half of all American households. Now, America’s beloved lemonade brand, Simply Lemonade, is bringing new meaning to summertime with Simply Spiked. While Simply has not yet confirmed the release date on their Twitter account, CNN reports that the beverage will hit shelves on June 6. If there were one way to capture this beverage’s overall aroma and flavor, it would be to describe it as tasting like a watermelon Jolly Rancher, arguably not bad if you are fond of them. This one is also very easy to drink — not overly carbonated, sweet but dry. Sweet blueberry and tart lemonade come together to create a one-of-a-kind taste perfect for your one-of-a-kind celebrations. Simply Spiked Lemonade communications from Molson Coors Beverage Company are only sent to eligible Canadian legal drinking age consumers.

I suggest pairing the drink with a salty snack to distract from it. The only successful hard seltzers are the ones that can mask the bitter licorice taste of stevia with assertive citrus flavors. The prototype for all of Simply’s flavors, this variety has no extra fruit infusion added but is still refreshing and sweet enough for a hot summer day. According to Taste of Home, the beverage has a good balance of sweet and sour due to its use of cane sugar and fresh lemons. Because there are no secondary ingredients added, its neutral taste also makes it a crowd-pleaser. But this can’t really be said about Simply Strawberry, which contains 26 grams of sugar per an 8-ounce serving, according to the beverage’s nutrition facts.

Beverage of the Week: Simply got spiked lemonade (almost) exactly right

From there, I tasted each, honing in on the degree to which the primary flavors could be detected and how well they blended. In completing my analysis and ranking of the Simply Spiked lemonade and limeade offerings, I chilled one of each flavor. I organized my tasting by what I perceived to be the least to most intense flavor combinations based on my knowledge as a chef, beginning with the Signature Lemonade and Limeade and working my way out from there. While I like blackberries, they are not my favorite berry. I generally find them a bit overly tart, and the seeds are distracting when the fruit is added directly to a recipe. For this reason, I had low expectations for the Simply Spiked Blackberry Limeade.

All in all, Simply Spiked Lemonade was almost everything I hoped it could be. Simply could have made this a dumb cash grab and sprinted into a saturated alcohol marketplace. Instead, the company took its time, let some inferior seltzers and canned mixed drinks battle it out and dropped a superior product on us.
